I've heard it's illegal because Mexican immigrants on the border in the 1800s smoked it, and some people wanted them gone, so it convinced the government that it's horrible for you, so they could get rid of the immigrants. One thing I'd mention though.. the whole "old guys sitting in the UN controlling things" comment made me bust out laughing. The UN has had absolutely nothing to do with marijuana.
