I.A.T.S.E Local One sucks! You guys are being ridiculous. When you strike for stupid reasons, you undermine the real purpose of a strike... Seriously, you make more money/have better benefits than any other stagehands in the world.

We need video comments from those directly affected. If anyone would care to speak, people will listen.

Actually I do. This may come as a shock to you but I am actually a stagehand/elec as well. I support most union causes (screen writers), in this case though it disturbs me that you guys elected to strike over such minor things. Pay, benefits, and job safety are noteworthy causes, but to be unwilling to at least negotiate over some "outdated benefits" is sketchy. Believe me, I love days when im called in for 15mins to refocus a few lights and get paid for 4+ hrs...

In this case, this strike just make all of us (stagehands) look bad... and its not the producers who are getting hurt, it is the patrons who come and see shows. I DECIDED TO GET INVOLVED IN THEATRE BECAUSE I LOVE HELPING BRING TO LIFE A GOOD SHOW TO THE MASSES... what are you in it for??? But thanks for responding, I would really like to hear your side. Prove that this strike is vital!!!

Because I rely on the constitutional right to refuse to work under conditions I have not agreed to, you think I suck. This is big business. A billion dollar industry in New York alone. Through all the smoke and mirrors its about the dollars. The stagehands expect a 1.30 increase in pay and a five year contract but apparently you think that's a "sketchy". But you would have us believe you know what your talk'n about.

You see that makes no sense... For starters werent you guys offered a 3.5% raise and a new five year contract? Second... as I said earlier pay, benefits, and work conditions are noteworthy things, but you have to be willing to at least negotiate on some of the smaller things (ie like ridiculus staffing requirements). Hey if the producers locked you guys out, I would be on your side 100%, just saying a strike at this time was not the way...

You write a statement "You see that makes no sense..." And then you ask the question "...for starters weren't you guys offered a 3.5% raise and a new five year contract? " You suggested in your statement "you have to be willing to at least negotiate on some of the smaller things" as if they hadn't been on the table already. I will assert here you know nothing of what wasn't on the negotiating table.

Brilliant production, cleverly revealing the threat to our capitalist way of life. Don't these workers realize that the audiences are the source of the capital that keeps Broadway jingling, and that those fans must not be disappoionted or betrayed? [continued]

(Contuinued) Don't they realize that there would be no jobs for them without the risks--severe risking of their capital, the grease that keeps our society running--taken by the investors in these shows? The stage hands get paid to do something millions would do for the thrill of being involved in the great wide way. They are being selfish, thinking of wages and conditions and rules. (to be cont.)

[continued] Be grateful for your jobs, grateful that you can help our glorious capitalist-run cultural elite system--be proud of keeping that running, no matter what changes they need to make in the rules and pay schedules to keep their profits flying. Beware--we could end up with a socialist system where the government supports the arts. (continued)
