Description:
A feeble attempt at explaining why I am a Christian. I said yahoo I meant youtube. "On the field of truth, on the battle -field of life, what came to pass, Sanjaya, when my sons and their warriors faced those of my brother Pandu" -The Bhagavad Gita Mat 22:36-40 "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" Jesus replied: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.'This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments." Some quote I like from the Buddhist Bible, most of which I find myself guilty of. "Those who outwardly profess, but do not practice may be mistaken for true devotees." "Reason, being in every action the best friend , is not to be avoided." "It showeth weakness in one who is a religious devotee to enter upon the path and not be able to tread it." "It is error to mistake the experience for the path itself." |

wayman29 ::: Favorites So if it is the god Marduk slaying the dragon , or Harry potter slaying the serpent in the Chamber of Secrets, The same archetypes repeat and spill over even when we may try to contain them. 07-08-21 21:28:22 _____________________________________________________
wayman29 ::: Favorites No I am not a fundamentalist. I do not choose what part of the biblical texts I use. I look at the historical, political, social, and cultural landscapes the writers expressed themselves in. Cruel jealous deities were not out of place in the Ancient Near East. It was all slice and dice. It bothers me that some dismiss the metaphor as irrelevant so quickly. 07-08-21 21:25:38 _____________________________________________________
wayman29 ::: Favorites "Christian, Muslim, Jew, no matter which myth your born into it is just that..myth" Yes! You are most correct. It is also metaphore. Religion is just one form of abstract expressionism. It is when we find ourselves taken by the myth and realize it, we use it as a map to place ourselves in our environment and community. 07-08-21 21:21:01 _____________________________________________________
sueyetta ::: Favorites And I'm currious, what would you "believe" had you been born into another culture? What IS the truth? And according to what criteria? Christian, Muslim, Jew, no matter which myth your born into it is just that..myth 07-08-21 04:15:58 _____________________________________________________
sueyetta ::: Favorites Tell me, do you actually believe that the earth was created a little over 6000 years ago? Or do you choose what part of the bible that suits you? Leaving out the cruel jealous deity? I'm not saying that I don't respect your tight to be just as brainwashed as you choose. 07-08-21 04:12:57 _____________________________________________________
